Aerobic Gymnastics

Aerobic features 3 different kinds of competitions: Aerobic Gymnastics with 5 categories (Men’s and Women’s Individuals – Mixed Pairs – Trios, Groups) and two competitive programme by team: Aerobic Dance and Aerobic Step;

For the official senior competitions of the FIG, the participants must have 18 years in the year of the competition;

The length of the routine is 1 minute 30 seconds with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 seconds for Men’s and Women’s Individuals, Aerobic Step and Aerobic Dance and 1 minute 45 seconds for Mixed Pairs, Trios and Groups with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 seconds. From 2013, 1’30’’ for all competitions;

One or more pieces of music may be mixed. Original music and sound effect are allowed;

Any kind of rolls are allowed and are not considered as prohibited moves;

Theatrical, musical and circus dress (belt, corset, dinner-jacket, tie, etc…) is not allowed. Clear representations on the leotard (flowers, animals, stars, guitars, etc...) are not allowed;

Hair must be secured close to the head. Make-up must be only for women and used sparingly. Jewellery must not be worn. Body paint is not allowed;

Dressing and undressing during competitions and warm-up periods in the designated competition area is judged as an unsportsmanlike gesture and may result in disqualification of the competitor;

A gymnast must wear his / her national identification or emblem;

For the health and safety of gymnasts, FIG has accepted that gymnasts competing in multiple finals require 10 minutes to recover before competing again;

Where there are serious medical reasons names changes may be made up to 24 hours prior to the competition;

A competition may not start earlier than 10:00 and finish later than 23:00;

During the competition each judge is requested not to leave the assigned seat, not to have contact with other persons, not to engage in discussions with coaches, competitors and other judges, to wear the prescribed competition-uniform;

The first “Sports Aerobic Commission” was created in 1994 and is named today Aerobic Gymnastics Technical Committee;

The first AER Gym Worlds took place in 1995 at Stade de Coubertin Hall in Paris (FRA);

Aerobic Gymnastics was included in the Universiades in Shenzhen (CHN) 2011.

The most honoured gymnasts (Gold Medallists) at FIG World Championships are Tatiana Soloviova and Vladislav Oksner (RUS – MXP) in 1998 – 1999 – 2000 – 2002), Yuriko Ito (JPN) - IW in 1998 – 1999 - 2002), Marcela Lopez (BRA - IW) in 2006 – 2008 – 2010 and Jonatan Canada (ESP - IM) in 1998 – 2000 – 2002.
